Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

I don’t know if you have heard of Randy Pausch He is a Carnegie Mellon Professor with terminal pancreatic cancer who gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007, before a packed McConomy Auditorium. In his moving talk, “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” Pausch talked about his lessons learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career and personal goals.

I am posting this because Randy Pausch passed away this week at the young age of 47 and it seemed fitting to share his video which was so uplifting, so funny, so inspirational that it went viral. So far, 10 million people have downloaded it.:

So the big question to me is, if you had only six months to live, what would you do? How would you live your life?

This question reminded me of a great quote from the Commencement address by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios, delivered on June 12, 2005.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
